The title took a long time to come to. Initially I wanted to call it “Trevor Upjohn and the Hole in the Sky” but that sounded too “Harry Potteresque” so after many different titles I finally settled on “The Purloined Boy” because of its vague resemblence to “tenderloin” and because of Edgar Alan Poe’s “The Purloined Letter.”

The identity of his attackers are the guys who’ve been threatening him — Meno and Willis. There is one other, but I won’t tell you who he is yet. I think you’ll find out much later in the story.

For a reply to cuddlesshadow, I think he lost the power because he stopped focusing on Zephyer. And Zephyer was giving him “the power”.
And mackjames, they were not only not supposed to know about home, but if other children heard about home, they might remember their home. And then the gaurdians would have trouble. The kids would probably rebel.

Yes, you’re right about why the Guardians and the Behavior Modifiers forbid words like “home” and “parents” — they’re afraid the children will begin remembering where they’re from.
You’re right about Trevor keeping his eyes on Zephyr too. That would be very difficult. But isn’t that a lot like life? Isn’t doing the right thing always difficult?

Ok, Cali it took me 10 minets to remember where and what Olton was.
If any of U were as confused as me, U can get U’r memory jogged on pg.76, there might be stuff before that though.

My mouth was watering after I read that. Stop torturing the girl who loves food!!!
Also in the kitchen I had the same dillema.
And I don’t think they were getting food when they took the kid from the croud. When I saw that, I thought of the old “The Hobbit” cartoons with the orcs leading the slaves and singing “where there’s a wip theres a way” sorry, I shouldn’t have gone into that.
It must be scary to be in the croud with that happing. Aaaaaaaaa!

Now, to my seed. When I read about Maggie in the early chapters, I had a suspition she was really old or something like that, and was scouting out to find kids who were like Trevor.
Now, what were U thinking in the early chapters!

I thought it was funny when the girl said Trevor was cute! And Maggie blushed, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! How sweet!

Sounds like you’re making good progress.
To your question, Trevor is changing, becoming someone who can do things he never would have dreamed doing before the story began. His old self would have been too frightened to follow Zephyr.
Why is he changing though? What’s going on? Do you have any ideas?

There will be a whole lot more of Maggie in the chapters to come. In a way you could say the story is as much Maggie’s story as it is Trevor’s.
In the final version of the first book there are a couple of chapters that are not in the version you have. In those you get to see things from Maggie’s perspective.

You are doing a great job with your blogging! Remember that by Monday rolls around, you should have blogged at least one “discussion seed,” and you should have responded to at least one seed of someone else’s. Everyone should also have read through Chapter 11 by Monday.
Does anyone have any predictions they would like to make? I’ve enjoyed reading some of your life connections…remember what we’ve learned about in our Daybooks? Many of you are making connections; that is a sign of a good reader!
I am hoping to get Morty to come visit us while we’re approaching the middle of the book. (And then, of course, we’ll have to have him visit us at the end, too!)

Hey dudes, I totally love this book. This is my second favorite book in the whole world,(mabe even my favorite book) and I love a lot of books. Mortimus, you are the best writer in the world. I love the way you make the story sound real!!!! This is a very interesting book and I love it i hope that you write plenty more books! I love to write stories and i hope that I can be as good of a writer as you. Keep writing and keep lovin’ to entertain kids!

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could explain the part where trevor was ditched by Zephyr and was left by lots of doors to go to…Oh it just slipped my mind. Well i’ll just explain the place umm the place were Trevor met Maggie and her Uncle. Anyways what happened when Trevor FINALY got in the doors were the doors tiny or big? I picture the doors as tiny little holes and with doors that open and close from the top and bottom u see where Im going???

The doors, if you recall, are double doors that swing outward. They about as wide as a man’s arms extended measuring from finger-tip to finger-tip. They’re not very tall though. A grown man would have to bend over to get through one of them.

Chapter 8 reminds me of two movies/books the first one is “Willy Wonka and the Chocoate Factory” because of the doors he got all lost and the second one is “Pinochio” becuse of the food and the village it all comes together.

What do you think was happening in chapter 8 with the little boys? Do you think that the boys were also run-aways? Do you think that they were all not run-aways but instead they were just mistaken by the bogey men as a run-away? I think that they were mostly run-aways and the last one was just mistaken as one! I hope that Trevor does not get cought even if he escapes again because he will still have the memory!

Chapter 10 is my all time favorite chapter in the book so far. I like when trevor meets Maggies mother ( At least I think it’s her mother) well anyways, I picture her really tall with long beautiful blonde hair. I guess Maggie wasn’t lying that she had eggs( Well Meno thought so). I can hardly wait to read chapter 11 and find out what’s going to happen to trevor at the banquet. My prediction is that when Trevor goes up to read he’s gonna go up there look at all the people take a deep breath and start reading, get all choked up on the embarrassing parts and run off into his room. At least that’s what I would do.

In chapter 7 to me the black figure looked like a dark shadow with fog around it, as it talked no movement came from a mouth but you heard it’s deep thunderous voise pounding agensed your ears as you try to think.

I don’t think that Molech is a bogeyman. Since nowone has ever seen him I think he might be something very powerful like Zephyr but uses his power for evil insted of good.
Or maby he’s the shadow in chapter 7 since the bogeymen only call him Lord. ( I dought the bogeymen even know his real name) The bogeymen probley just don’t know it’s Molech because he doesn’t want anyone to know who he is.

CHAPTER EIGHT
In the beginning of the chapter Zyper had left Trever in front of a town called Olton. Zyper had left him there to rest because he used to much of the ointment and was geting weaker by the second. (sorry don’t have book I forgot what ointment was called) The problem was that there was a big wall with lots of doors but there were no handles on the out side of the doors. Then a man opened a door so Trever ran to it as fast as he could but when he got there the door was shut. Then another door opened so Trever ran to that door but it also shut when he got there. Trever thought for a moment then relised that the man was probley opening all of the doors. He then ran to a random door and he was wright. The door then opened and he saw the man he had seen at the other doors. The man woulden’t let Trever in then all of a suden he saw Maggie behind the man. She told the man that Trever was her freind then He let Trever in. Maggie introdused Trever to her uncle and then they started to walk up the hill.

In this chapter, I think that since the tree comes from a different place were light is always shining and it takes from the future that this other world might be heaven. I also think that Zyper and the tree come from the same world since they both glow.

Well, I’ve been gone for a while. Sorry ’bout that.
What Chuck said about Molech being a blob. That would be intresting, a giant black blob taking over the world. [ooops didn’t mean for that to jump out!!!] SOQ [I mean] LOL. And it was totally Star Wars, you were right. To me, ’cause when the story[about Gorgon] was being told, I thought of Episode III, when Anikin was hearing the story about the really wise guy from To-Be Emp. Palpitine. For a sec. there, I was wondering if Icabod had killed him for something funky like that.
After finishing Chapter 17, I think my earleir prediction that I never mentioned was correct. What is it? That Paracelsus is bad cheese [in other words, up to no good]
angel[whatevernumberyouare] to me, there is totally no way that the tree cam from heaven.
The Pig is awesome. Now, I’m curios, is it like an old age bouncy ball???

I just wanted to say that the pig ball in Chapter 16 might be of great power. I think it might have something to do with the ward. I also think that Paracelsus might be evil and working for King Molech. I do not know what Gorgon did to Meno and his friends to make them so cheerful because I don’t think it was the special drink. He may of casted a spell on them. The book Icabod has been trying to read might be the key of how to work the pig. I do not know how Gorgon shape shifted into santa claus because I do not recall him having powers. Does he have powers that I don’t remember except that he use to be an illuminator. Epictetus is being very foolish by letting Molech and his friends to Olton. He should be more wise and keep them out knowing what kind of kids they are. Meno is probally going to do something terrible to Trevor and there won’t be anyone to help him. I’ll talk to you later can’t wait to read the next chapter. Don’t tell the teacher but I might take a peek –SMILE

I loved Ch. 14-17!!! I think that, Mortimus, you had some of your best work there! The best part is how Meno and his friends get tricked by “santa” and they now are in the same place w/ Maggie and Trevor again! I LOVE YOUR BOOK and it is the only thing I look forward to doing at night, reading it.

The cover looked really cool….. all the baskets tell that I think Trevor isn’t going to go home, he’s going to help other kids, and he’s going to use the birds mentioned in chapter 28 to help!!!!

Actually, Ragnarok is the Norse version of the end of the world — when the Norse gods are defeated by the monsters.
If you think about that idea it will give you an idea what that book will be about.

Well I know that we’ve totally finished reading the book in all that, but I just wanted to say as a final note that Morti’s books are the BEST!!!!!!!!!
I hope the idea about having illustrations throughout the book happens. Dang, there were certain times I was really really really really confused.
Thank you for letting us read your book, and I can’t wait to read the rest of them!!!
